Resistencia is the latest project by French-Colombian photographer Mathias Maumont Perafan. The series explores the broad and multifaceted concept of resistance through the personal stories of thirteen individuals portrayed in ten photographs.

In his practice, Maumont Perafan blends documentary and artistic genres. Each composition is inspired by the personal journey of the subject, informed by in-depth interviews in which they speak openly about their lives. These narratives reveal diverse yet universal interpretations of what resistance can mean.

Created in the challenging socio-political context of the Cauca region in Colombia, Resistencia seeks to foster empathy and contribute to the pursuit of peace — something the country urgently needs. The series’ visual aesthetic merges patterns and colours drawn from different Colombian inspirations, aiming to neutralize the socio-political background of each subject while emphasising their humanity.

The project has been internationally recognized, earning multiple awards and nominations, including being Shortlisted for the Latin America Professional Award at the Sony World Photography Awards 2024, receiving an Honourable Mention at the Prix de la Photographie Paris 2024 (PX3), and being nominated in the People category of the Fine Art Photography Awards 2024 (Professional).
